Wisdom Teeth: Information for Families
Simply the thought of having his or her wisdom teeth removed can make even the toughest teen anxious, and the parents along with it! That’s why we are here: to ensure that you have a safe and comfortable wisdom tooth experience in our office. From advanced safety measures to state-of-the-art tools and the priceless experience of our team, you can rest assured that your teen’s wisdom teeth removal will be worry-free.
The Problem with Wisdom Teeth
Wisdom teeth, also known as the “third molars,” are the last teeth to erupt in the mouth. Occasionally, wisdom teeth erupt without trouble or crowding. However, this is rare. More often than not, wisdom teeth grow in crooked, sideways or are unable to erupt through the gums at all (impacted). In this case, it is important to remove them to prevent serious complications down the road, such as infection, nerve damage, cysts and tumors.
Removing Wisdom Teeth During the Teen Years
Many patients want to know: “Why can’t I wait until my wisdom teeth cause problems to have them removed?” The reason for removal of wisdom teeth during the teen or early adult years is important: Because the roots have not fully developed, wisdom teeth are much easier to remove at this point and have less chance of causing complications because they have not reached the nerves yet.
Safety in Wisdom Teeth Removal: Choosing a Surgeon
It is important to choose an oral surgeon for removal of your child’s wisdom teeth because oral surgeons attend training in hospitals for several years after dental school and are specially trained in anesthesia, essential for your child’s safety. It is also critical to have your child’s wisdom teeth removed by an oral surgeon with extensive experience, such as Dr. Bhaskar.
Wisdom Teeth Complications
Because wisdom teeth removal has been performed for so many years, it is a very predictable surgery with few complications, provided that it is performed earlier in life than the adult years. Rare but possible complications do occur, and we do everything to minimize their risk: infection, nerve damage, dry socket, damage to nearby teeth.

Great experience, staff made me feel comfortable and relaxed. Both the office and the doctor called to check on me on day of and day after surgery. If you follow all of the doctor's instructions you will have a pleasant post operative checkup.
